The Canopy Children’s Solutions CARES Center represents Mississippi’s inaugural private, non-profit psychiatric residential treatment facility dedicated to children with severe emotional or behavioral disturbances. CCD contributed to the initial phase of development on the Jean Austin Bagley Campus in Jackson, Mississippi, by designing three residential cottages to accommodate children served by CARES. Each single-story cottage prioritizes a therapeutic and secure environment, fostering areas for work, study, and recreation for both children and staff. The cottages feature a central day room and shared dining space for group activities. Adjoining this area are five double-occupancy bedrooms, providing accommodation for a total of ten residents per cottage. The open plan ensures that staff can easily observe residents while respecting individual privacy. The design also includes a complete residential kitchen, seclusion room, laundry facilities, and staff offices. Additionally, each cottage boasts a spacious covered porch. The buildings are strategically arranged to create a shared courtyard space, offering a generous area for children to engage in play and activities while allowing staff to supervise them effectively.
